Do you know what can ruin even the most insightful, inspirational, and valuable book? Poor editing. If your readers can’t get past all of the typos, grammar mistakes, and consistency problems, they won’t bother to finish your book. They also won’t recommend your book or, more importantly, view you as an expert with knowledge and value to share.

I’m here to help you wow your readers with an exceptional reading experience that allows your knowledge to shine.

But first, let’s get three things straight.

Copy editing is what most people think of when they hear the term “editing.” There is infinitely more involved in copyediting than simply looking for instances of “then” when you really mean “than.”

I offer three different editing services, so you can choose the one that best fits where you are in the writing process and what your manuscript needs.

Choose your editing service based on where you are in your writing process and what you need for your manuscript.

Regardless of which editing service you choose, I will create a style sheet that you can refer to throughout the project and after the editing process. This resource includes my sources (the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition, and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 11th Edition, always top this list), along with any special work treatments or notes about tone/slang.

Copyediting is a detail-oriented package. I’ll break out my magnifying glass and go through your manuscript line by line, looking for grammar, spelling, consistency, word choice, and jargon.

If you use abbreviations in your work, I’ll make sure that they’re defined at the beginning of each chapter. You don’t want your readers to have to rush to Google or search for an asterisk because you used a TLA* they weren’t familiar with.

I’ll also make sure that your verb tenses are consistent and that you switch between the past tense and the perfect tense at the right moment. And all those times you stressed about capitalization, punctuation, and mechanics? Gone. I take care of those as well. (You’re welcome.)

*Three-letter acronym. (See what I mean? Don’t make your readers look for the asterisk. Your book isn’t a game of hide-and-seek.)

Copyediting is right for you if:

You have a finished manuscript that you want to publish.

You’re confident that your manuscript has little to no organizational issues.

Copyediting starts at $.05

per manuscript word.

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing focuses on the big picture of your work. I’ll focus on the nuts and bolts of your manuscript to ensure that it becomes a well-organized, coherent book. When I’m in developmental editing mode, I look at chapter organization, overall structure, pacing, flow, voice, and tone.

I’ll also delve into your target audience and establish a solid understanding of whom you want to target. From there, I scrutinize your tone and style to ensure it meshes well with your chosen audience. You’d be surprised how often you think you’re writing for a particular audience when in reality you’re not.

If you need more support than what I provide in developmental editing, my book coaching services may be just what you need.

Developmental editing is right for you if:

You only have a partial manuscript and are still in the writing process.

You want to ensure that your manuscript flows in a logical way.

Your voice isn’t consistent throughout the work.

You’re struggling with organizing your manuscript.

Developmental editing starts

at $75 per hour.

This is the final round before publication. I’ll look over your manuscript for typos, weird formatting problems, and any other errors before your masterpiece goes out the door.

If you’re self-publishing, this is the final stage before you publish your work.

If you’re going the traditional publishing route, this is the final step before you submit your work to an agent.

Proofreading is right for you if:

Your manuscript has already been formatted.

All you’re looking for is a last set of eyes on your project to catch glaring typos and grammar errors.

You’re ready to send your manuscript off to be published.

Proofreading starts at $3

per typeset page.

Blogs and Website Content

I can write your blog post, depending on the topic, or your company’s website content.

You provide the resources—research on the topic, detailed information, videos, samples, etc.—and I’ll write the content. Alternatively, I can conduct the research myself, provided I have a clear understanding of the direction and content matter.

Please contact me for information regarding rates as this is based on the scope and nature of the specific job.

Ready to self-publish?

I have just what you need.

If you have a book or a partial draft that you want to be edited, check out my book editing services. These packages are perfect for business owners who want a second pair of (very experienced) eyes to go through their work and look for grammar, flow, and idea development.

If you don’t have a finished book, I can still help! My book coaching service is perfect for creative entrepreneurs who have an idea for a book, an outline of a book (or maybe just the start of one), or a partial draft and want some guidance bringing that vision to life and completion.

Schedule a free, 20-minute Book Brainstorm Session.

During our call, I’ll ask a few questions so I can get to know you and your project. Once we’ve discussed what you believe you need for your manuscript, I’ll recommend which service I believe is best for you.

Be aware that what you think your project needs might not always be the case. For example, you may actually need developmental editing when what you think you need is copyediting.
